Essential License Info for Your Port O'Connor Trip

Navigating the licensing requirements is the first step toward a successful day on the water with Port O'Connor Coastal Outfitters. Whether you are joining us for an offshore excursion or a specialized hunt, having the correct documentation ensures a smooth and professional experience. Below is a comprehensive guide to the regulations and options for fishing in the Port O'Connor region.

Who Needs a License?

In Texas, a valid fishing license with a saltwater endorsement is required for any person—resident or non-resident—who takes or attempts to take fish, mussels, clams, crayfish, or other aquatic life in the public waters of the state.

  • Age Requirement: All anglers 17 years of age and older must possess a valid license.
  • Endorsements: Since Port O'Connor Coastal Outfitters operates in the Gulf and coastal marshes, you specifically need the Saltwater Endorsement. If you plan to fish in both fresh and salt water, the "All-Water" package is the most efficient choice.

Special Exemptions and Discounts

Texas offers several exemptions to make the outdoors more accessible for families and seniors:

  • Youth: Any person under the age of 17 (resident or non-resident) does not need a fishing license.
  • Seniors: Texas residents born before January 1, 1931, are exempt. Residents aged 65 and older born after that date can purchase a "Senior Resident Fishing License" at a significantly reduced price.
  • Free Fishing Day: On the first Saturday in June each year, everyone can fish for free without a license in Texas public waters.

License Pricing & Options

Pricing varies based on residency and the duration of your trip. For travelers visiting Port O'Connor for a single outing, the "One-Day All-Water" license is often the most practical choice.

One-Day All-Water: $11 (Resident) | $16 (Non-Resident)

Saltwater Package: $35 (Resident) | $63 (Non-Resident)

Senior Saltwater Package: $17 (Resident) | N/A (Non-Resident)

All-Water Package: $40 (Resident) | $68 (Non-Resident)

Where to Purchase Your License

We recommend securing your license at least 24 hours before your scheduled trip to avoid any morning delays. You can obtain a license through the following methods:

  1. Online: The fastest way is via the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) website. You can save a digital copy or a photo of the license on your phone.
  2. Local Retailers: Many sporting goods stores, tackle shops, and large retailers (like Walmart or Academy) in Port O'Connor and surrounding areas sell licenses at their service counters.
  3. By Phone: Call (800) 895-4248 during standard business hours.

A Note for Waterfowl Hunters

If you are booking a guided duck hunting trip with us, please note that a Texas Migratory Game Bird Endorsement and a Federal Duck Stamp are required in addition to your standard hunting license. Similar to fishing, youth under 17 do not need a license but must still be accompanied by a licensed adult.

Pro Tip: Always carry a digital or physical copy of your license and a valid photo ID while on the boat. Having these ready ensures we can focus entirely on the fish and the scenery once we leave the 1301 Water Street dock.
